Body found in River Ouse - is it Mandy?

4:51pm 9th April 2010
(Updated 7:01pm 12th April 2010)

Police investigating the disappearance of Mandy Bishop have recovered a body from the River Ouse.

The 34 year old, who lived on Skeldergate in York with her mum, was reported missing by a family friend on Saturday.

But it's thought Miss Bishop may have been missing from home for over a fortnight, since March 22nd 2010.

Officers also discovered traces of blood inside the family home, identified as Mandy's, and expressed fears for her safety.

It emerged Mandy had threatened self-harm in the past and was the sole carer for her seriously-ill mother.

The body was recovered from the river close to Skeldergate Bridge at 11.30am today.

Police are yet to formally identify it.

Officers said Miss Bishop's mother was struggling to cope since the disappearance of her daughter.

(PICTURED: Mandy aged 16. A more recent picture is currently unavailable according to North Yorishire Police.)
