AUDIO Elderly driver taken ill at the wheel in York crashes at supermarket.

999 crews have been attending an accident near Morrisons supermarket on Foss Islands road today.

A motorist is understood to have suffered a heart attack.

North Yorkshire Police said officers were called by the ambulance service to a traffic collision at around 12 noon.

They said a Ford Focus collided with the traffic lights at the turning for Morrisons.

It is believed that the driver of the vehicle, a man thought to be in his 70s, may have been taken ill at the wheel.

He has been taken to Hospital in York and no one else was injured.

The road will be closed while officers carry out inquiries at the scene of the incident.They are also appealing for witnesses.
