Two Men Dead in Yorkshire Coast Helicopter Crash

Flamborough Head helicopter crash 160914 (YCR)

3:16pm 16th September 2014
(Updated 5:50pm 16th September 2014)

Two men have died after their helicopter crashed into the sea off the Yorkshire coast this afternoon.

The men were pulled out of the water near Flamborough Head just before 5pm. The pair haven't been named yet but they were heading from an airfield near Edinburgh to Retford in a privately chartered helicopter.

Emergency services were called at 1.40pm after people nearby saw the helicopter crash into the water near the lighthouse at Flamborough Head.

Recovery experts are now trying to get the aircraft out of the water as the Air Accident Investigation Branch begins an investigation into what happened.

A police cordon is still in place with people advised to stay away due to the cliffs and what officers believe may be aviation fuel in the water, making it unsafe.
