Waste company fined for polluting the River Wharfe

A waste company has been hit with a bill of more than £50,000 for polluting the River Wharfe in Tadcaster.
The firm, called VWS, pleaded guilty to 10 offences of breaching environmental permits.
Selby Magistrates heard they were regularly in breach of their discharge limits from the treatment plant for the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery.
The firm were fined a total of £40,000 and ordered to pay full prosecution costs of just over £11,000
