There's been an angry response to news that there will be a New Year deadline for claims over Lendal bridge fines. They will also have to be made on-line or in person. The City of York Council will open the application process for the repayment of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) in relation to the trial traffic regulation of Lendal Bridge, next week.
The process will open from 9am Monday 8 September, and will close on midnight on Wednesday 31 December 2014.
Neil Ferris, Assistant Director of Highways, Transport and Waste, said "it's a settlement process not a refund so claims have to be made in a certain way". That is via the internet or in person at West Offices.
Chris Steward, the leader of the Conservatives said "That discriminates against people who are not on line or local".
An application must be made before midnight on Wednesday 31 December in order for this to be considered for repayment.
All applications must be made online via www.york.gov.uk/lendalbridge
The council’s website will be updated monthly with the number of PCNs repaid.
The council will publish the total cost of the Lendal Bridge settlement process after Wednesday 31 December.
