Witness appeal after York armed robbery
3:49pm 29th August 2014
Detectives are appealing for the public’s help after an armed robbery in the city.
It occurred at around 8.50pm on Thursday 28 August 2014, at Macraes Newsagents, Huntington Road.
The suspect entered the shop and threatened two women, working in the shop, with a handgun, before demanding money and cigarettes. He was handed money and several packets of cigarettes.
He is described as white, around 5ft 4in to 5ft 5in tall. At the time, he was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with thin horizontal stripes up the arms and across the hood. He was carrying a JD Sports carrier bag.
Detective Sergeant Fionna McEwan, of York CID, said: “Thankfully noone in the shop was injured as a result of this incident. However, they have quite naturally been left shaken by the experience.
“If you have any information which could help to identify the man responsible I urge you to contact the police as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone who can assist with this investigation should contact York CID on 101, select option 2 and ask for Mike Avison. Alternatively, information can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For those who would prefer to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555111.
