Police Investigate as York Camper Van Stolen and Set on Fire
4:41pm 12th August 2014
York police are appealing for information after a camper van was stolen and set on fire.
The red and white Bedford Rascal was taken from outside the owner’s house on Rosebery Street between 9am and 9.30pm on Saturday 9 August 2014.
The van was found burnt out just off Water Lane near to the Clifton Hotel at around 5am the following morning.
As part of the investigation, officers have issued a photo of the van in the hope that someone may have seen it driving around or parked up prior to it being set on fire.
PC Nick Garbutt of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: The vehicle was set on fire around a mile from where it was stolen, but this was at least seven and a half hours after it was taken. It has therefore been either driving around or parked somewhere for quite some time before it was set on fire.
“Given that the vehicle is so distinctive, I would like to appeal for anyone who may have seen this vehicle and anybody either in or around the vehicle between 9am on Saturday 9 August and 5am on Sunday morning, to please get in touch.
“The owners are particularly upset as they have had this vehicle for more than ten years and it holds many happy, holiday memories for them.”
Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for PC Nick Garbutt, or email email@example.com
