Ripley Murder Investigation: Victim Named

We are now in a position to name the man who died of stab wounds at Ripley on Sunday (3 August 2014) evening.
He is Mark Leslie John Berney, aged 44, from Knaresborough.
Mr Berney’s family have requested that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
Officers re-opened the B6165 at Whipley Bank on Monday (4 August 2014) evening. The section of road had been cordoned off while searches were carried out at thescene.
Local residents who were disrupted by the operation are thanked for their patience and understanding.
The suspect, who is aged 40 and from Harrogate, remains in police custody for questioning while enquiries continue.
Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, Head of the Major Crime Unit, said:
“At this time we are not looking for another person or anticipate further arrests in connection with the case.”
