National Motorists Group Calls for Automatic Refund of Lendal Bridge Fines
6:02am 25th July 2014
A national motorists' group is calling on York Council to automatically refund the 57,000 Lendal Bridge fines.
The National Motorists' Action Group has written to York Council's Chief Executive Kersten England asking her to automatically refund all the drivers fined during the controversial six month trial.
York Council announced earlier this month that Lendal Bridge fines would be refunded "as a gesture of goodwill" to those motorists who applied for a refund.
But fined drivers are being told to wait until the authority has set up a system to process those refund claims, which the council has said will be launched in the "near future".
York Council is currently waiting for a decision on it's appeal to a judgement from the government's traffic adjudicator in April which ruled the fines which were issued on Lendal Bridge and on Coppergate were unlawful.
