Car and Bus in Head On Crash on A19 Near York

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious head-on collision involving a car and bus on the A19 at Tollerton in the York area.
It happened at around 6pm today (Wednesday 16 July 2014) when the car was heading in the direction of Thirsk and the bus towards York, close to the petrol station.
The man driving the car suffered serious injuries and was tended to by paramedics.
The man driving the bus had to be freed by firefighters and was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.
There were only three passengers on the bus who all escaped unharmed. A mobile police office was deployed to the scene to provide support and shelter for the stranded passengers.
Local diversions remain in place while the police investigate the collision scene and to allow for the vehicles to be recovered.
It is likely to take several hours to reopen the stretch of road so motorists are advised to stay away and to check Minster FM for the latest traffic and travel reports.
Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room.
