12:08am 11th July 2014
The government has given York Council £1 million to continue it's i-Travel scheme to tackle congestion.
The funding for 2015/16 will be put towards a Low Emissions Strategy to tackle air pollution in York. The cash will also be used for a campaign to develop a workplace travel plan with businesses and talk to people living in York to get them cycling, walking or using public transport.
The government says the campaign will target the busiest roads in the city. It adds the money will allow the council to promote cycling and bus use.
It brings the total government funding for the i-Travel project to £2,475,000.
