MP Checks Out Improvements at York Station
4:31pm 27th June 2014
York MP Hugh Bayley today visited York station to see the new passenger waiting rooms and welcome East Coast’s record breaking customer satisfaction results.
Hugh met East Coast staff, saw the new waiting rooms and visited the station control room.
East Coast has invested £650,000 in the new waiting rooms which feature full under floor heating, CCTV, information screens and station PA speakers. The investment has created one hundred new seats at the station and provided a heated waiting room on Platform 4 for the first time.
This week East Coast was named as Britain’s number one long-distance franchised train operator in a national survey of customers’ views. East Coast was awarded a 91% overall satisfaction rating for its service for a record second time in a row in the National Rail Passenger Survey, which is conducted by independent travel watchdog Passenger Focus.
Hugh Bayley MP said:
“The last time the Tour de France came to England in 2007, over 2 million people turned out to watch. This year the numbers could be even bigger, and lot of them will pass through York station.
“York is already accredited as a secure station, offering safety and good facilities for passengers, and East Coast’s £650,000 investment in better waiting rooms will make it safer still. East Coast have greatly improved their trains and station facilities while running the franchise. This is reflected in their latest record-breaking customer satisfaction results.”
Duty station manager Lee Spence said:
“We were pleased to welcome Hugh Bayley MP to York station to discuss the latest improvements for our customers. We hope that the new waiting rooms will provide comfortable spaces for everyone who uses the station.”
