Further 3 Month Lease For Malton Livestock Market
12:19pm 17th June 2014
The decision has been made due to a request from Malton and Ryedale Farmers Livestock Market Company, who asked to be able to maintain continuity in market operations while attempts to progress a move to a new site out of town at Eden Camp continue.
Minster FM understands the Estate remains set on redeveloping the site with a food store.
The Estate’s manager, Roddy Bushall said:
”We had expected to have heard the result of the ‘call in’ decision by now and since the current lease comes to an end very soon a decision had to be taken to allow a further three months while our challenges of the Wentworth Street decision work their way through. This provides a breathing space which needs to be very actively used to progress a relocation plan for the livestock market.
“Despite the approval given by RDC to its developer partner at Wentworth Street, no operator for a superstore has come forward and lot of people are wondering if one will do so. The age of plenty for the big retailers may well be over, so it is quite possible the car park site could be put to good use as a car park for years to come. This level of uncertainty is unhelpful and once we can clear our way to developing the site, we will want to see it contributing to the town centre experience as soon as possible.”
