Opposition Lib Dems say the city council should scrap it's £3,000,000 city centre re-vamp project to pay to keep children's centres and youth clubs going.
But the Labour council say their million pounds of cuts to children's services were caused by lower government funding.
The party also accuses Lib Dems in the city of scaremongering ahead of next year's local elections.
Labour Councillor Janet Looker says:
“A great achievement of the previous Labour Government are Children Centres, all works carried out in this area have my support. However now the Government is Conservative led, propped up by the Liberal Democrats and our funding has been cut almost in half, a review of how they operate is necessary."
“Lord Storey understands that local councils are facing tough and often difficult decisions due to the cuts imposed on council budgets by his government party whilst the York Liberal Democrats ‘scaremonger’ on the issue and will continue to do so as we run into next year’s local elections.”
