Concert to Celebrate Burnby Hall & Gardens 50 Years
2:47pm 28th May 2014
Major Percy Stewart, the owner of Burnby Hall, Pocklington died in June 1962. In his will, he left his estate in trust to the people of Pocklington, a town he had lived in and loved for over 60 years.
In April 1964, the Stewart Trust was established to administer the estate and their work since that time has ensured that Percy Stewart’s legacy is alive in well through the hugely popular Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum.
2014 sees the Golden Jubilee of the Stewart Trust and a number of celebratory events are taking place in the Gardens in June this year. In addition to a children’s Jubilee Garden competition and a young peoples’ musical workshop, a special celebratory concert by the Yorkshire-based Mini Big Band is being held in the Gardens on the evening of Saturday, 14th June.
The Mini Big Band is made up of some of the finest young professional musicians in the country, whose studio and live experience spans from performing all over the UK, Europe and the World. The members of the band work on some of the country’s top theatre shows and have graced the stages of many venues including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, the Jazz Café, Glastonbury, The Bridgewater Hall and many other top Concert Halls. The band also features the majestic vocal talent of Roman Marek who has been wowing audiences with his performance of Frank Sinatra in a nationwide touring theatre show.
“This will be a superb Golden Jubilee event for the Gardens and for Pocklington” says Peter Rogers, Media Officer for Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum. “The legacy of Major Stewart and his wife Katharine is alive and well through Burnby Gardens and Museum, and this event will be a fantastic way of celebrating 50 years of the Stewart Trust’s work, whilst looking forward to the next 50!”
The Golden Jubilee Concert takes place on Saturday 14th June. Tickets are available from the Visitor Centre at Burnby Hall Gardens (tel. 01759 307125), with further details on our website www.burnbyhallgardens.com .
