The JORVIK Group introduces new volunteer roles at three of its historic attractions.

The world famous JORVIK Viking Centre and two sister attractions, The Richard III Experience at Monk Bar and Henry VII Experience at Micklegate Bar, are offering the chance for enthusiastic individuals to have a helping hand in telling the history of York in the Viking and Middle ages.

In celebration of their 30th anniversary, JORVIK Viking Centre is hosting a range of special events throughout the summer, and are searching for a Volunteer Handling Collection Guide to help with the planned activities.

This brand new role involves exploring the Viking-Age through the discoveries of the famous Coppergate Dig; allowing the public to learn more through the objects found and informal question and answer sessions hosted by the Volunteer Guide themselves.

Volunteer Coordinator, Helen Harris explained:

“Our 30th year provides us with an exciting opportunity for both the public and volunteers to handle relics and finds of the Viking-Age and become involved with York’s history.”

At The JORVIK Group’s two newest attractions, there is the chance to become an Interpretation Assistant at either the Richard III or Henry VII Experience.

Located on the historic York Walls, these two attractions explore the reigns and impact that these two medieval Kings had on the city of York.

Volunteers will engage visitors with an in-depth look into the life and times of the city under the rule of Henry and Richard and handle collections of archaeological finds linked to Micklegate and Monk bar. Helen continues:

“These two ancient bars are the perfect location to explore the city’s medieval history, but it’s only with the help of hard-working volunteers that we are truly able to explore York’s past”

For confident, passionate lovers of history and York’s rich heritage, you can apply to any of these roles by contacting The JORVIK Group’s Volunteer Coordinator, Helen Harris, by emailing: hharris@yorkat.co.uk .

Alternatively, you can visit The JORVIK Group’s volunteer page at: www.thejorvikgroup.com/volunteers where further details and application forms may be found.

Volunteers aged 18 or over are asked to apply by the 31st May 2014.
