A festival of music in which some 200 choristers participated in April has raised a sum of £2,656 to benefit Marie Curie Cancer Care in the area.
The concert had brought together seven member choirs of the National Association of Choirs from across East and North Yorkshire to perform at the Association’s 2014 Conference Gala Concert which this year was held at Westborough Methodist Church in Scarborough: special guests in the capacity audience had included the Mayor and Mayoress of Scarborough (Councillor and Mrs Andrew Backhouse), and very distinguished celebrity conductor Manvinder Rattan (of The Choir fame as a judge).
Participating choirs that were showcased individually as well as performing as mass Male, Ladies and Mixed Choirs, comprised Beverley Male Voice Choir, North Ferriby Ladies Choir, Cadenza, Malton District Male Voice Choir, Hull Ladies Choir, Staxton Singers, and Hull Male Voice Choir of which concert co-ordinator and compere Terry Wallis of Marton (near Kirkbymoorside) is a member.
York based Project Manager Cheryl Barrett of Marie Curie Cancer Care responded:
"A huge thank you from our Charity to everyone who played their part in raising this magnificent sum of £2,656 which represents almost 133 nursing hours or nearly 15 full nights of care for local patients and their families."
