North Yorkshire Police Launches Fast Track Hiring Campaign to Find Top Cops

North Yorkshire Police has today launched its recruitment process in support of a pioneering national campaign to attract new talent to the service.
Earlier this month the National College of Policing set out plans for two new programmes which they hope will attract people with different perspectives and ideas and individuals from diverse backgrounds to help support the continuous development of policing.
A fast-track programme will see talented candidates placed on an accelerated promotion and development scheme, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and experience to rise through the ranks from constable to inspector within three years.
This scheme is open to graduates, serving special constables and police staff.
Also being launched is a direct entry programme designed to attract talented leaders with fresh perspectives and ideas from outside the police service. Successful candidates will be given 18 months of training, coaching and mentoring to equip them with the skills to excel in a superintendent role.
The application process for the fast-track programme closes on Friday 23 May 2014 and the closing date for the direct entry programme is Friday 6 June 2014.
Chief Constable Dave Jones, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “"This is an exciting scheme which gives us the opportunity to recruit diverse and innovative individuals from other industries into the police service.
“North Yorkshire Police already has excellent senior leaders and police officers who are committed, professional and experienced.
“However, the police service is facing new challenges and needs to change to meet those demands. In order to deliver the most responsive police service in England and for our communities to feel safe and be safe, we need to develop new ways of working.
“We need to embrace change and take this opportunity to recruit people who can complement the skills of our team of senior leaders and enhance the current culture.
“Direct entry affords those from a diverse background, who already have senior leadership experience in more varied environments, to enter the service at a level where they can have an immediate impact on moulding the future delivery of service to the community.
“The fast-track programme will also enable us to recruit talented people who have the potential to learn quickly and progress through the ranks allowing them to gather the necessary skills and experience to be excellent inspectors within a relatively short space of time.
“Working with the College of Policing, a robust recruitment, selection and training programme for successful applicants who will work with colleagues across all areas of the service, will ensure they are equipped with the operational and organisational skills to take on these demanding roles.
“I am looking forward to seeing applications from individuals from all backgrounds who feel they have the relevant skills and want to make a real difference to the community.”
