York Housing Association Launches New Service for LGBT Tenants
3:47pm 29th April 2014
A new initiative to ensure equality for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender people has been launched by York Housing Association.
York HA has formed a partnership with York LGBT Forum which represents lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender people.
Through the partnership York LGBT will provide confidential support to York HA's tenants and provide information on social networking opportunities. The Forum will also provide training for York HA staff and tenant groups.
In return York HA will raise awareness about the service to its tenants and staff and provide the Forum with knowledge of the housing sector.
York HA Chief Executive Julia Histon said: "Embracing equality and diversity is central to everything we do for our tenants and staff and this new partnership adds a valuable service to the LGBT community.
"It is important that LGBT people are aware that York Housing Association is accessible and here to offer housing help and support when it is needed.
"We will also be consulting with the Forum on new policies and initiatives relating to LGBT people and will be supporting the work of the Forum."
Edwina Sykes, co- chair of York LGBT Forum said: "We are delighted to be working with York Housing Association and welcome the opportunity to raise awareness and provide advice and guidance not only to the tenants but also the staff.
"We also look forward to working on new initiatives and policies in relation to LGBT issues that may arise.
"It’s great that this is one of our first formal partnerships with organisations within the York area. The Forum looks forward to working with many other groups, organisations and companies to improve relations with the LGBT communities it serves."
