Suspected 2nd World War Bomb Found in York

North Yorkshire Police were called at around 3.55pm on Wednesday 16 April 2014, after reports that workmen on the new Park and Ride site at Askham Bar had found what is believed to be an old world war mortar shell. The site has been evacuated and a 100m cordon is currently in place.

The Army are on their way to the scene to assess the device.Sim Balk Lane is currently closed and the Askham Bar off-slips on both carriageways of the A64 have also been shut at this time.
