Man Arrested After Jumping Into The River Ouse Last Night
10:28am 30th March 2014
A man's been arrested after jumping into the River Ouse last night from a city-centre bridge.
North Yorkshire Police were called to the Lendal Bridge area just before 6:30pm after a member of the public saw a man jump into the water and begin swimming downstream.
Officers at the scene were equipped with throwlines which helped the man get to the riverbank, due to lack of exits from the water.
It's thought the man was “intoxicated” when they managed to pull him out of the river, but is believed to not have got into any difficulties.
The fire service was also contacted when the man was spotted jumping from the bridge.
This incident comes days after a river safety summit was held in York after the recent deaths of Megan Roberts and Ben Clarkson, whose bodies were both found in city’s rivers weeks after they disappeared whilst walking home from nights outs.
