North Yorkshire Police Appeal For Witnesses After Serious Sex Assault In York

Detectives in York investigating a serious sexual assault in the city are appealing for two vital witnesses to contact them.
The incident occurred near Skeldergate Bridge just after 1.30am on Monday 3 March 2014, when a local woman, in her early twenties, was subjected to a serious sexual assault by an unknown man.
The witnesses officers need to speak with are two men who were in the Coney Street area at around 1am on Monday 3 March 2914, before walking along Ouse Bridge passing by Tesco Express, down the steps at the side of The Slug and Lettuce to Kings Staith. They then walked past The Lowther public house, along the River Ouse towards Blue Bridge passing St Georges Field Car Park.
The first man is described as being white and around 6ft tall. He was wearing a dark hat with a lighter coloured bobble with writing on the front. He was also wearing a hooded military style jacket, worn with the hood down and fastened to the chin, and was possibly wearing jeans.
The second man is also white and slightly shorter in height. He has short dark hair and wearing a dark waist length jacket, lighter coloured shirt, possibly jeans and dark smart shoes
A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with the assault remain on bail while police enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Allan Harder, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “If you match the description of either of the witnesses, I urge you to come forward straight away as you may have vital information which could help this investigation".
“I am also keen to speak to anyone else who was in the Skeldergate Bridge area at the time of the incident and has not yet already contacted the police, to do so.”
