Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has told Minster FM that Eggborough power station is a "significant player" but that he cannot guarentee its future.

We asked Nick Clegg about the plant, which employs 800 people, on his visit to York this weekend.

The plant recently missed out on government funding, which would have enabled the change to have been made to wood burning rather than coal, putting jobs at risk.

He said that the highest levels of government are aware of the status of Eggborough and that the are committed to "keep the lights on".

Minster FM also spoke to the Business Secretary Vince Cable who said that he couldn't tell us how the government would proceed with Eggborough.

Vince Cable said he had discussed the power plant with his collegues in government and he recognised it was a significant issue.
