Resident's Concerns Over More Giant Turbines
10:29am 9th March 2014
Residents are gathering today at Holtby village hall to raise their concerns over planning proposals to build a giant wind turbine at Murton Moor. Origins Energy have submitted the application to York City Council for a turbine thats blades would span higher than York Minster.
Clare Hartley is from Holtby, she is one of the residents oppposed to the commercial turbines. She's helped form an action group of people in Murton, Holtby and Kexby who are against the plans. They worry that if the turbines are approved it will set a precedent for further wind turbines in rural East. Clare is keen that the green-zone surrounding York is preserved. She said "Green belt is protected for a reason. There has been significant building on the green belt of York, over the last 10 years, and some of those developments have been appropriate, such as Monk's Cross, because it's been for the betterment of the city and has brought people here. A wind turbine will not attract visitors to historic York. It is not for the benefit for the local community."
The open day will run from 11am-4pm.
