Minster FM Lendal Bridge Debate: Yellow Card System Being Considered
6:36am 26th February 2014
A yellow card system could be brought in for drivers who cross York's Lendal Bridge, if the controversial trial is made permanent.
It's one of the options being considered as the evidence into the six month car ban is examined from tomorrow.
To mark the six month point of the trial, Minster FM held a debate allowing key opinion formers representing tourists, businesses, drivers and bus users to share their views with the city council, as well as putting questions from Minster FM listeners.
Kate McMullen from Visit York said the organisation was supportive of the trial but was "extremely concerned" about the levels of fines and that "York's reputation as a welcoming city has the potential to be marred by visitors getting home and finding out they have been fined during their stay".Her predecessor Gillian Cruddas told Minster FM last Autumn that she was in favour of a warning letter for first offenders.
Minster FM's Kevin Larkin, who chaired the debate, put the point to Dave Merrett from York Council.
