York Schools Miss Out on £261,000 Due to Low School Dinner Take-Up
7:45am 28th January 2014
Schools in York are missing out on £261,000 because not enough kids are claiming free school meals.
Schools get £653 for each pupil claiming free school meals, under the government's Pupil Premium but the city council says around 400 children who can claim them aren't doing so.
A pack-up culture in the city is being blamed by officials.
But children who were asked say queues and the same food being served day after day are putting them off.
Parents in the city will be asked for their views on school meals next month.
