11:29am 9th January 2014
Police in York are appealing for witnesses after a collision which left a moped rider with serious injuries.
It occurred at 5.40pm on Wednesday 8 January 2014, on the A19, Shipton Road, at the junction of Howard Road, opposite the Mitre pub.
The collision involved an orange Aprilia moped, which was heading into York, and a black Ford Fiesta.
As a result of the incident the 21-year-old man, from Nether Poppleton, riding the moped suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where he remains in a critical condition.
The driver and passenger in the Fiesta, both from York, were not injured in the collision.
The road was closed for four hours after the collision.
Traffic Constable Roger Walker, of the Force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “The collision happened at a busy time of day and I believe that there are a number of people who witnessed who have not yet contacted the police. I urge them to do so straight away.
“I also need to speak to you if you saw either vehicle prior to the incident and ask you to get in touch.”
Anyone who can assist officers to progress this investigation should contact York police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Roger Walker. Alternatively, information can be emailed to email@example.com.
