Man Arrested In Connection With Serious Assault On York Burglary Victim

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of burglary and assault which left an elderly woman in hospital.
The 33-year-old man was arrested in York yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 7 January 2013) and remains in police custody for questioning about the offence which was committed in Victoria Court on New Year’s Day.
Officers are still trying to trace a bicycle which was linked to the incident and urging the public to look out for it.
The bike is described as a grey or silver, old-style gents bike, with straight handle bars.
Detective Superintendent Heather Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “Although we have made an arrest, our enquiries remain ongoing and I am urging the public to continue to help us progress this investigation.
“In particular I am appealing for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to do so. In addition I would ask that anyone who has any information that would assist with the investigation to do the right thing and contact the police.
“The victim in this case is 87 years of age and as a result of the assault remains in a critical condition in hospital.
“The cycle used in the offence remains outstanding. Anyone who has seen the cycle or knows of its whereabouts is also urged to contact the police.”
