Christmas travel disruptions due to severe weather

Storm York 230813

9:55am 23rd December 2013
(Updated 9:56am 23rd December 2013)

Your Christmas travel plans could be hit by the weather today with rail operators already reporting of distruption on many lines to and from London Kings Cross.

East Coast trains are one of 27 train networks affected by stong winds and heavy rain. Passengers are advised to check timetables for live information. Network rail is saying it will be 'concentrating on passenger safety' rather than keeping all its scehduled services. Some train companies are offering the opportunity to use tomorrow's tickets today so travellers can hopefully avoid the worst of the storm.

Meanwhile, motorists are also asked to drive with care as gusts of winds up to 80 miles per hour are expected.
