Malton Tastes Christmas With Final 2013 Food Market
7:32am 14th December 2013
Picture the scene.
The mouth-watering aroma of baking rises through the 40 stalls, all laden with tasty Christmas produce. People bustle past each other, eager to see what the next vendor has to offer that could possibly be better than the last. The Town Crier is ever-present, herding flocks of shoppers toward the village's tastiest wares.
You're in Malton...the theme is Dickensian Christmas...and you've arrived at the final Food Lovers Market of 2013.
Starting at 9 this morning, the Market boasts a lot of seasonal freebies - including entry, parking, and even a cup of tea or coffee with every bakery purchase.
Special Guest Gilly Robinson - known to millions as Rosemary Shrager's right-hand woman - hosts the Market's star attraction: the Cookery Theatre. She's in charge of four demonstrations throughout today, covering puddings to sauces, to what to do with your leftovers.
She told Minster FM: "I'm delighted to be attending the Market. The build-up to Christmas is such a busy time for everyone, and this is an ideal opportunity to get on with some foodie preparation!"
The cookery demonstrator, who's also a teacher and a food-show organiser, will be helped along the way by Ripon Grammar School student Roscoe Savage...and one lucky "non-cooking" dad, who will be revealed at the Market later on today.
Robinson added: "My chief passion is cooking and getting others interested. Hopefully, we can inspire younger members of today's audience to help in the kitchen."
Local foodies need not worry - Malton Food Lovers Markets start again in March, and they'll run every second Saturday of the month.
