Market Weighton Gets £1 Million Cash For New Roundabout
7:30am 13th December 2013
A million pounds of government cash will be spent on a roundabout in Market Weighton.
The new junction on the A1079 and Holme Road will allow new homes to built on nearby land.
Plans to electrify the York, Harrogate, Leeds and also the Selby to Hull rail lines will now be looked at too.
East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight said: “I am delighted that the Government has now been able to provide funding for this project. These works will bring real safety improvements to the junction. They will also lead to a significant improvement in traffic flow around Market Weighton benefiting both local residents and businesses in the East Riding who use the A1079, as queuing and congestion are cut.
Sir Greg commended the Government for introducing the new 'pinch point funding scheme' from which the grant is being made.
"This is great news for the area as it will make the road much safer"
The works are expected to start in 2014.
