York Man Fined £954 for Dumping Sofa and Armchairs

A York man's been fined £954 for dumping a three piece suite just off the A19.
The 23 year old left furniture and other waste in Overton. He admitted the offence in front of Northallerton Magistrates on November 25.
“Here in Hambleton we take fly tipping seriously - and the courts are backing us up,” said Cabinet Member, Councillor Brian Phillips.
“These individuals believe they can pollute our district with their waste and just “get away with it. On this occasion it cost a ‘man with a van’ £954 – but the annual cost to our ratepayers is £17,000.”
And he warned householders to check that anyone being paid to take waste away has a valid Waste Carriers Licence and provides a receipt with the vehicle and driver’s details. If the items are fly tipped they can be traced back to the person that dumped them.
“There are many ways of disposing of waste lawfully - including using the council’s collection service,” he added. “We urge people to comply with the law and dispose of items carefully.
Hambleton District is a beautiful area and should not be ruined by selfish - and often profiteering - individuals.”
