Three Geese Hit By Car in York
1:14pm 26th November 2013
The RSPCA is appealing for information after three Greylag geese were hit by a vehicle on Navigation Road in York yesterday.
The incident happened at about 2.40pm. RSPCA animal collection officer (ACO) Helen Martindale arrived less than half an hour later to find that two of the birds had been killed.
She took the third goose to the vets but sadly it had to be put to sleep after suffering terrible injuries to its wing and chest.
It is not known if the geese were run over on purpose or if the person was going too fast.
ACO Martindale said: “These geese were in a terrible state and it’s doubtful that the person who hit them would have caused such injuries if they were travelling to the speed limit. They weren’t small birds so would have been very visible and avoidable if travelling slower.
“All three suffered horrible trauma and if anyone saw the vehicle that hit them or witnessed the incident we’d urge them to come forward.”
Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for ACO Helen Martindale.
