North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have been called to a fire in the grounds of Castle Howard.
A fire was reported in a free standing garage in the grounds of Castle Howard to emergency services just before 11pm last night (25th November 2013).
Two fire engines from Malton Fire Station were sent to the scene and on arrival found a vehicle garage to be well alight, say North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
More fire engines were requested from York and Helmsley Stations, including an Aerial Ladder Platform and Incident Support Unit for lighting.
Crews have put out the fire and report that there is 100% fire damage to the garage and some smoke and water damage to other buildings. There were no vehicles in the garage at the time of the fire, the cause of which is not yet known.
A spokesperson for Castle Howard says they are open for business as normal from 10.00am today. None of the public areas have been affected although, they add, there are limited credit card facilities today.
