The only travellers' site in Ryedale has been expanded to provide space for another seven families with the current 13 pitches having been upgraded with new kitchen and bathroom facilities.
Funding for the project has come from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) with support from Ryedale District Council and Yorkshire Housing.
In January 2012 the HCA announced confirmed allocations for £47m of funding to support 71 projects across the country.
Tara Park was one of the projects for the provision of new traveller sites and new pitches on existing sites, as well as the improvement of the existing pitches.
Cllr Linda Cowling, Leader of Ryedale District Council said: “Ryedale has a statutory duty to provide accommodation for travellers.
“Tara Park is a well run site and the upgrade and expansion of the site well meets the needs of the Ryedale area and ensures that the district meets its target for provision of these facilities.”
“The whole scheme is a good example of effective partnership working.”
Yorkshire Housing project managed the expansion and upgrade of the site.
Ged Walsh, Yorkshire Housing New Business and Development Director said: “We are confident the upgrade and extension of the site will help Ryedale District Council meet its obligation to provide accommodation for travellers.”
Funding for the scheme has come from the HCA.
Helen Fielding, Area Manager HCA Leeds City Region and North Yorkshire Team, said: “We are pleased to have supported the partners in the improvement and expansion of this site.
“We work with Local Authorities to provide housing solutions for all members of the community, and make good places where people want to live, and Tara Park is a great example of this. I’m sure the families who live here will enjoy the new and improved facilities”
