2% Council Tax Rise for Ryedale Discussed Tonight
5:35pm 31st October 2013
Plans to increase Ryedale Council's share of the council tax by 1.99% are being discussed tonight.
Ryedale Council's looking at putting up it's share of the tax, which would be the same as a 7 pence a week, or £3.53 a year increase.
It's the maximum amount the council can increase council tax without holding a referendum on the plans which would cost £70,000. It says only a proposal to increase the tax by 4% or more would make a vote worthwhile economically.
The district council says it could have to make deeper cuts to services if it takes the government's council tax freeze.
It's also proposed to increase charges for council services by 3.5-4.5%.
A final decision on the council's budget will be taken at the end of February.
