These are the lowest September unemployment figures in the city for 4 years.
The number of people in work has reached an all-time record high of almost 30 million.
Gary Reilly, Regional Manager for Totaljobs.com in Yorkshire says:
“Falling unemployment in the region is a great boost for Yorkshire. This is down to an increase in permanent jobs. Underemployment has been a major challenge during the downturn but with improving market conditions and stronger levels of confidence amongst employers this month, we are seeing more permanent positions being advertised in the job market. There is without doubt now much more optimism in the jobs market and the main areas of concern over the last few years are being addressed. The market is showing the first few subtle signs of better times ahead – more permanent jobs and more career opportunities and apprenticeships for school leavers are a testament to this.”
