David Cameron says the government "should look at" dualling York's Outer Ring Road and the A64 in North Yorkshire.
Minster FM's Kevin Larkin was able to put the question directly to the Prime Minister.
Shortly before the question and answer session from workers at Portakabin in Huntington, David Cameron met Conservative York Outer MP Julian Sturdy who also privately lobbied for an upgrade to the Outer Ring Road.
Julian Sturdy highlighted the daily traffic jams on the northern outer ring road and suggested it was preventing the local economy from achieving its full potential.
The Prime Minister agreed to consider the issue and help Julian Sturdy as he looks to get it included in the government’s road programme.
On the PM's recent visit, Mr Sturdy said:
"I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to the constituency and I was pleased to be involved in facilitating his discussion session with staff at the Portakabin site. Portakabin’s expansion over recent years is a great success story for our local economy and it’s clearly a well deserving company for the Prime Minister to visit.
"I also welcomed the opportunity of raising with him what I feel is one of the most important issues holding back local businesses: our deeply congested northern outer ring road. I am hopeful that the Prime Minister will support me in trying to achieve the investment we need."
David Cameron also went on the attack saying City of York Council's decision not to take the council tax freeze was adding to poverty in the city.
