Inspiration For Joining Hambleton's Big Weekend
6:00am 12th October 2013
Hambleton’s ‘Big Weekend’ of health and leisure has the backing of a young slimmer.
Twenty five year old Martha Dollery (pictured with Personal Trainer Andy Hargate) lost almost five stone in the last year – after becoming a member of a Hambleton Leisure Centre.
She attended the 2012 open weekend, taking up Freedom Membership allowing her to take part in activities in and out of the water at the centre.
Student life followed by full time work had taken its toll on her weight - and Martha wanted to do something about it.
“I feared entering the gym as I thought everyone would be looking at me,” she said.
“But I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere - the staff and the other customers are really friendly and it was not the daunting place I expected. I urge anyone in my position not to wait because of what you think - come and give it a go, the things I was worried about were not even there!”
After taking out her membership Martha spent the first three months concentrating on the gym, swimming and sauna where she made real progress. She than added the circuits class and has built up gradually to attend step, outdoor fitness, pilates, body blast, metafit and a weight management course.
And a year down the line Martha is just seven pounds off her goal weight of 10 stone 12 pounds.
Martha is attending Hambleton’s ‘Big Weekend’ (October 12 and 13) to give inspiration to others.
‘The Big Weekend’ is part of an initiative to increase the number of people taking regular exercise - and to raise awareness of what the leisure centres have to offer.
Over the weekend residents can take advantage of free gym trials, group exercise consultations; guided tours of the facilities and a family swim ticket for just £7.
There are also discounts on memberships including seven weeks Freedom membership for just £7, plus any one that attends one of Leisure Centres during the big weekend receives free entry to the Lucky 7 Prize Draw, with seven top prizes to be won including one nights B&B at The Black Swan, Fearby.
