Police Investigate Series of Burglaries in Norton
3:38pm 23rd September 2013
Malton police are offering security advice as they investigate burglaries in Norton.
They occurred between 9.30pm on Sunday 22 September and 3.45am on Monday 23 September 2013, from houses on Springfield Garth, Dean Road and Wood Street.
The thieves stole electronic equipment including a Phillips television, computers and a Nintendo game station and games. The burglars also took model trucks and money boxes.
PC Paul Storey, of Malton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you have seen any people or vehicles acting suspiciously in the Norton area over the last few days I urge you to come forward and contact the police straight away.
“I also need to speak to anyone who may have been offered the stolen items and ask that they get in touch.”
PC Storey added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to remind homeowners to make sure that they keep their homes secure, keeping windows as well as doors locked.
“If the property doesn’t already have security lighting, consider installing it. This will act as a deterrent and disturb potential burglars.
“Make sure fences around the garden are in good repair and that any gates are locked.
“This is especially important at this time of year. With the nights drawing in, open windows give opportunist burglars an easy target.”
