Bid Chosen to Run Malton's Livestock Market

A bid has been chosen to run Malton's livestock market from October.
The Malton & Ryedale Farmers Livestock Market Company has been selected by the Fitzwilliam Malton Estate.
The group led by Pat Foxton will now be responsible for running the market from October 4th and moving it to a new site, believed to be in Old Malton, and making it a success.
It now has until September 6th to show the Fitzwilliam Estate the details of the finance behind its proposals.
A rival bid from Malton & District Farmers Mart LLP was turned down, despite having a better long term vision, as it did not have the finance to run the business in the short term.
Fitzwilliam Estate manager Roddy Bushell said: "Foremost in our minds has been the unbroken operation of the market to allow more time for a relocation of the business to be successful. Since I expect the Farmers Livestock Marketing Company to be able to provide evidence of the funding promised in their bid document fairly soon, this means that farmers can continue to buy and sell their livestock in Malton."
"It will then be up to the Farmers Livestock Marketing Company to get planning consent for a new site and arrange for the relocation of the business as soon as possible. Since there is so much of merit in the rival bid from the LLP, I will be encouraging the successful bidder to find a way to work with the LLP to create the strongest possible venture capable of relocating the market."
