During the eagerly awaited lead up to the Tour de France Grand Depart, Yorkshire continues to play host to a raft of major UK based cycling events. A month of major cycling events throughout the county was rounded off with the annual Ryedale Grand Prix at the stunning Ampleforth Abbey.
“The Ryedale Grand Prix once again attracted a large field of riders for the prestigious races, that included the National Junior Women’s Championship and the nail biting finale of the Men’s Premier Calendar Series; top quality races that kept spectators enthralled throughout the day” said event organiser Bob Howden.
“Despite difficult weather conditions to start with the day was another great success with lots of positive feedback coming from the cyclists and spectators.”
The event is organised by British Cycling’s Yorkshire Region working with local clubs. Race sponsorship is once again in the hands of Grass Concrete Limited, showcasing their Grasscrete system and Ryedale District Council, both of whom have supported the event since its first running in 2005.
“Ryedale has so much to offer to cycling enthusiasts,” said Cllr Linda Cowling, Leader of Ryedale District Council.
“The Ryedale Grand Prix 2013 was a great success – thanks to the efforts of all those involved - and Ryedale will have been showcased once again.”
