Ryedale police are continuing the campaign against scrap metal theft with officers taking part in a national day of action.
It took place on Tuesday 23 July 2013, supported by Humberside police, and the British Transport Police.
Following the execution of a search warrant at a scrap dealers in Pickering, a 44-year-old man was given an adult caution for failure to record particulars of metal received, possessed or despatched.
PC Andy Rogers, of Malton Safer Neighbourhood Team, led the operation in the Ryedale area. He said: “I am pleased to say that the vast majority of scrap metal dealers are law abiding and comply with legislation. However, there is still a small minority who flout the law. They need to understand that we will not tolerate their offending and we will take every opportunity to disrupt their business.
“If you know of anyone involved in this illegal sale or purchase of scrap metal, I urge you to contact the police straight away.
Anyone who has information about people trading in scrap metal illegally should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the details to the Force Control Room.
