Three New Firms Move on to York Science Park

5:38pm 22nd July 2013

York Science Park provides a stimulating environment for early stage businesses and has recently welcomed three new businesses to its incubation space, Springboard. These businesses are GameSparks, Haider Green and Expresso Investments Limited.

Tracey Smith, Managing Director of York Science Park, said: “I’m thrilled to welcome three more entrepreneurial start-up businesses to our exciting incubation space, Springboard. From mobile games development and energy consultancy to product design, these diverse businesses will contribute to, and benefit from, the dynamic environment that Springboard offers. As some of our existing early stage businesses are now established and moving on to the next stage of their development, we still have room for more new businesses; so get in touch with us quickly to secure this sought after space.”

Strategically located in the Ron Cooke Hub on the University of York’s new campus development, Springboard enables entrepreneurs and businesses to more easily access University departments. This support helps companies to transform new ideas into lucrative, sustainable businesses.

About the businesses:

GameSparks is a platform provider for mobile games developers to help them launch games more quickly and for less money. In the ever-evolving world of games development; as games increasingly run in the Cloud and embrace freemium, GameSparks aims to help address this and make it easier for developers to be successful.  The GameSparks platform is launching at the end of July 2013 and the first game to use it, Beat Breaker, from a company called Time Machine Games, is a 'puzzler meets rhythm' game shortly launching across iOS, Android and Windows.  GameSparks is targeting UK mobile developers primarily and working with a range of companies located throughout the UK including Coatsink in Middlesbrough.

Gabriel Page, CTO of GameSparks, said: “We are delighted to have secured a place in Springboard.  The support provided by York Science Park is great and we look forward to participating in their wide-ranging events.  Being located on campus gives us access to up- and-coming talent from the University of York which will be invaluable to us going forward.”

Haider Green is an energy consultancy and project developer, specialising in energy efficiency, optimisation, renewables and utility-scale coal-to-biomass conversion. Decarbonisation and energy security are two highly recurrent themes in the energy debate of the present day. In the backdrop of declining conventional energy base, growing world population and rapid industrialisation of developing countries, achieving both these objectives simultaneously is a challenging task. As such, governments and corporations have been investing heavily towards this end. Haider Green has a business offering that is very much coherent to this debate and addresses some of the key challenges.

Richard Green, Managing Director of Haider Green, said: “York Science Park is in an excellent location with good transportation links to London and the major airports. The Park has facilities to ensure we remain productive 24/7. Access to state-of-the-art communication, meeting and research facilities are what distinguishes York Science Park from other business facilities in the surrounding area.”

Expresso Investments Limited is a design house that embraces modern technologies and designers. Architect and designer Stephen Hampshire and Chartered Accountant Jonathan Emmott have created a team that collaborate with others to produce innovative, commercially viable design solutions for everything from furniture to lighting. The business is currently working on design projects including a new range of garden furniture; a specialist range of eco energy-efficient, low carbon light bulbs that can fit in existing housings; a new concept of infra-red heating, and a safety bracelet for parents of young children. The business is also looking to harness young designers, providing them with the medium for getting their products to the market place.

Jonathan Emmott, Joint Managing Director, Expresso Investments Ltd, said: “We chose to take a Springboard office primarily because the feel and fit is right for us.  It’s relaxed, beautifully designed, the people are full of energy and there is a real collaborative spirit.  Secondly the pricing and structure of the rent is ideal for our new start business.  Thirdly the physical location and surrounding landscape are perfect for us.”
