York City Knights Celebrate Re-Signings

York City Knights

10:42am 20th July 2013

York City Knights have received a huge boost ahead of their crucial Kingstone Press Championship home clash against Whitehaven this Sunday with the news that four first team stars have re-signed with the club for 2014.

Jack Lee, one of the club's longest serving players and widely regarded as one of the most talented hookers in the Championship, has signed a two-year extension which sees him remain at the club until the end of the 2015 season.

Young centre Jack Latus has signed a one year extension after impressing for the Knights this season since initially joining on a trail basis from Hull FC.

Sam Scott joined the Knights from Champions Sheffield Eagles this season and the strong tackling second row has impressed throughout, he has also signed a one year extension.

And finally Ryan Mallinder is a 23 year old back rower from Sharlston Rovers ARLC who was recommended to Knights U20s coach James Ford by Featherstone Lions ARLC Craig Barker, signed pro forms earlier this season and Gary Thornton was impressed enough to get him on board for next year too.

Knights Executive Chairman John Guildford was happy with his first recruits of 2014: "I am delighted that Jack, Jack, Sam and Ryan have all agreed deals for 2014. All four of them are quality players at this level and I think we have set the bar nicely for our recruitment in 2014. The Knights have beaten offers from other quality clubs for these boys, and we have shown that we intend to compete in the Championship play-off picture for next season and beyond."

"Jack Lee in particular has consistently been one of the Knight's best performers since he joined the club in 2010, and we are thrilled that he has committed his future to us for the next two years."

"It takes a lot of hard work from the Board of Directors to put together a competitive squad in the Championship, and without their continued dedication these signings would not be possible, and along with the fantastic help we receive from our great fans via the Squadbuilder and the upcoming share issue, we remain committed to making York City Knights the best Rugby League club it possibly can be, one for the City of York to be proud of."

Keep an eye on the Knights website next week, as we announce more signings for 2014.
