York School Dinners Cost More

7:34am 17th July 2013

School dinners in York cost too much according to the council.

Mums and dads in the city pay an extra 75p a week compared to parents in North Yorkshire and the East Riding.

School meals in York cost £2.25 a day, but in North Yorkshire and the East Riding they are £2.10 a day.

A national Department for Education report suggests that four hundred children who are entitled to free meals in York are missing out with some not claiming. The council says that this means that not only are these pupils missing out on free school meals, but also additional funding that free school meal pupils attract - currently £653 per pupil per year.
