Tourists Scared Out of York by 'Drunken Yobs'
9:06am 15th July 2013
There are fears tourists are being put off York by drunken rowdy behaviour.
A new report says ambitions to double the amount of money brought into the city by tourism in the next ten years could be put at risk.
Key to that aim is increasing how long people stay in the city, but many are complaining of a poor night's sleep and bad visit because of noise from drunks.
It's led Safer York Partnership to go back to the idea of giving police powers to seize alcohol from people causing trouble.
Families are also said to be staying away from the city centre because of "drunken yobs" created by "irresponsible" drinks promotions, according to a city council report.
The report says more and more people are getting drunk before they go out, or pre-loading, according to bus and taxi drivers.
It's calling on the council to look at and plan for what the night time economy will be like in five years, improve crime fighting and encourage more firms which don't sell alcohol to open at night.
