Billy Marshall, a Year 11 student at Bootham School, has just received the fantastic news that he has been selected to play his violin at Buckingham Palace this summer, and to be part of the televised Proms from Albert Hall on 14 August.
Billy will be part of a small group of musicians from the National Youth Orchestra playing in three televised Coronation Concerts at Buckingham Palace. He is also playing in the Albert Hall Proms on the 14th August with the NYO, which will include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and this again will be televised.
Director of Music at Bootham, Paul Feehan, said, “ Billy is one of our most gifted musicians and this opportunity to play both at Buckingham Palace and at The Albert Hall is a wonderfully exciting opportunity for him.”
Next term the school will move into its new £3.25m music facility – the Bootham Arts Centre. Paul Feehan went on to say, “The new Bootham Arts Centre is going to provide the very best facilities for our musicians – we can’t wait to move in next term!”
