Easingwold Police Alcohol Warning
1:10pm 26th June 2013
Police in Easingwold are warning people not to buy alcohol for underage drinkers after a man was handed an £80 fine.
Local officers say they have seen an increase in incidents of adults purchasing alcohol on behalf of under 18s in the town, including youngsters’ older friends.
Police Community Support Officer Kimberley Laws, of Easingwold Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It’s against the law to buy alcohol for under 18s and anyone who is irresponsible enough to do this should consider the consequences.
“We take it very seriously and will not tolerate it if anyone is caught supplying youngsters with drink.
“We are also asking retailers to be vigilant and to ensure they challenge anyone who they think maybe buying on behalf of young people and to report anyone they suspect of buying drink for under 18s.”
“Underage drinking often leads to antisocial behaviour which makes life a misery for people, so please stop and think of the consequences before you buy.”
Anyone who has any information about people buying alcohol for young people in Easingwold, is asked to call PCSO Laws on 101, select option 2 and ask for Kimberley Laws.
You can also pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
