York Children Raise Money for Guide Dogs
2:38pm 20th June 2013
A York primary school presented a cheque for £3345.20 to the charity Guide Dogs this morning.
Children at Clifton School and Nursery have raised the money this year for the charity: their official charity for this year.
The cheque was presented to Mr Edward McCabe, Mobility Team Manager from Guide Dogs in Hull. Judy Shaw, who is registered blind, was also present with her guide dog Opel; a labradoodle.
Two children, Harrison Harrand who sold books at a car boot sale and raised over £100 and Rosy Jones, who asked for money for the Guide Dogs instead of birthday presents at her recent party and raised £208, helped hand over the cheque, as did Mrs Fiona Franey and Mr Chris Tidswell, staff members who were instrumental in organising the fundraising effort.
The money is enough to allow the school to name their own Guide Dog puppy. The children will be voting on names including Squire and Bobby in the next week.
